Naniwa 12k vs 16k Shapton
I agree with Lynn. I have both the Naniwa 12K and the Shapton 16k. While the number 16 suggests a finer result, the 12k has as good or better feedback feel than the 16k. I am by no means an expert but I like both the Nani 12k and the Shapton 16k.
I have too many stones for the amount of common sense I possess. I set bevels with the DMT 8C and 8EE. Then to the Norton pyramids. On to the Yelow Coticule and then the 12k SuperStone and/or the 16k. Then to the .5 Diamond and CeOx. Lately I have been ignoring the Escher and the Chinese 12k. Also the Chosera 10k and the Blue Belgian.
The DMT's and the Nortons and The Superstone work well for me at the moment. However I am glad I have alternatives when my mood changes.
Speaking of moods, I have a piece of denim blue jeans stapled to a 1/2 inch thick Balsa Wood to which I sprayed .25 diamond spray and added CeOx dust. My Genco Gold Seal shaved well after this treatment. I have signicantly lightened my touch on the hones and strops recently and am achieving far better shaves than I used to thanks to some recent posts which were very informative. Thank you honemeisters.
You old, experinced honemeisters are constantly seeking a higher level of perfection and this is keeping the rest of us motivated to move forward and improve our methods in hopes that we match yours. Mucho thanks to Lynn and all the mentors who are showing us the way. Without this forum, I would still have my finger up my -( how do you spell kazoo? )
My next goal is to shoot Utopian out of the saddle by learning how to hone my smiling blades. Just kidding, Ron..... Jerry:)
