    Default Hone identifying...need help. :-)

This is a stone, i picked up this morning out of the U.K., though i'll not be getting it in hand for about a week.
I have some suspicions, but could use some HAD's help in identifying or confirming what this is.

    Dimensions: 11" x 2" x 2".

    Many thanks,

    Mac

On the bottom left photo it appears as though there are little "leaflets" stacked one on top of the other - on the side of the stone. Is this in fact it? or is this just an optical effect created in the photo and represents lapping or saw marks?

If they are in fact little leafs - it's not an Arkansas.

Well...with the help of a couple friends, my suspicions point towards the possibility of a turkish oilstone...but of course, i wont know, until i have it in my hot big hands. :-)

I knew your hands were big, but I was unaware that they are also hot.

A Turkish would be a fun new addition for you to play with. Here's hoping!

Sham has had a couple of Turkish stones and if he happens upon this thread he might be able to tell you if it looks anything like what he had.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Any idea what grit these are? The first pick of the rough stone looks like an Eidsborg I have in my collection.

I can only give my impressions, as a comparison. I'm finding the two stones, photographed, behave about like a hard Arkansas does...same grit and honing speed.
It's my personal opinion, that they make slow, but decent bevel setters at around 800-1200 grit...i speed things up using a slurry. There of course, may be others with different opinions, on this subject.
It would be cool to see a picture of your Eidsborg...? :-)

    Thanks,

    Mac
