Hi Christopher,
You have a Black thuri/Escher. A little finer than a Y/G thuri/Escher.

Wait...a black Thuringian? Hmm...never heard of a black Thuringian before, unless you count the Hohenzollern, that is. (I can spell it too, Jimmy. LOL) In any case, the Faso GWH is a very, very nice stone. A good size stone too. (9-7/8 x 2 x 3/4)
Thanx,
Christopher =)
Congratulations Christopher, yes a small NOS labeled Black Escher was sold on Ebay a couple months ago. Attached is a picture of my Barbers Delight Escher. I consider it to be a high grade Y/G thuringian final finisher. Notice the banding of the stone layers. Fade to black. I hope this helps some.

I got a really Nice 6x2 Faso labeled thuri.
Looks damn nice. Have not tried it. Ill post some pics together with the YSL hones in some Days.
Here's a shot of a NOS "Faso" Coticule I recently acquired. Apparently "Faso" was a private label company offering the better stones (Thuri's, Coticules, etc.) available for razors in Germany. My 'Guess' would be that these stones were boxed and sold sometime in the 50's - 60's based on the information I gleaned from the person I bought this from

Interesting. I heard up to 1930 from german source but its not sure.
Can u share a pic of your Nice coticule but showing the full label aswell?
You are probably correct Frameback...the person I bought this from at a garage sale was a 'youngster' that didn't have a clue about any of the items he had for sale. My take was that they belonged to a deceased grandfather who had owned a Barber Shop. I was just guessing as to the time frame.
I'll try to get some better pics and post them up...
I currently own the hone that Christopher mentions above. I can honestly say that I would not call this a thuringian. I have been doing research on this company and can say that what little information is out there is inconsistent. The company delivered a few different stone types. I wish I could offer more definite information on this company.
Tricky with same label on different stone types.
Interesting subject. I Will dig up some more info
