Thanked: 9Lapping with sandpaper
Today I decided to lap my Norton 4k/8k hone. I went to local hardware store and bought some Mirka wet-dry sandpaper (600 was the lowest grit available). During the lapping process I noticed that not only my hone, but also the sandpaper did loose some abrasive material. I used six sheets before I was ready and the slurry was quite greyish (sandpaper is dark grey itself).
I started to worry if my hone became contaminated with abrasive particles from the sandpaper. I rinsed my hone properly and the surface looks clean but I'm not sure if it is truly clean, though. What is your opinion, can the coarse particles from the sandpaper catch to the pores of the hone and ruin it?
