Arkansas?

So I picked up this stone on the bay because I liked the coffin box it was in and I thought maybe I would get lucky with something special, it was ten bucks, no biggie. The stone smells of oil and water beads right off the stone. It was almost entirely black before I lapped the top surface of it, now it's a brownish red color. The stone is 9 inches long and about 1 3/4 wide without the casket box. It also had a lid for the box:

I should also mention the stone is smooth to the touch and even though it looks like it could be coarse. It feels like my Norton 8K side sorta, Hmmm.

I'm no expert on IDing those but Howard (The Perfect Edge) has posted that Easy Off Fume Free oven cleaner is really good at getting the old oil out of stones if that is something you would be into. Other than that I usually try pocket knives on unknown stones first to see where they're at.

How difficult was the stone to lap? When I've tried to lap Arkansas, it seemed like it would have easier to drive to Hot Springs and buy a new one.

Nick i have couple of them. they are not arkansas stones ( if what i see is correct reddish color stone with small dots in it) . it is hard to lap very hard stone but fine. will do fine work a little fast cutters then arkansas.
i really don't know what is the name .
it should be some important stone old times. many of them out there.
Again if we are talking exact same stone i am not sure 100%
