To me, it looks like a big ol' piece of fudge.
For $12.50 it is worth it just to find out what it is, and is cheaper than going to a movie.

It looks like a hone made from jasper.
Is there a clue where it came from.
The carved base looks like the carved base of
a chrysanthemum stone I have.
Some stones are just for meditation too.
If it reminds you of a forest or a water fall.

Calligraphy stones are often slate and have a shallow
basin at one end.
Is it magnetic? meteorite?
Thanks all for the good info. I have no idea what a calligraphy stone is, but I will look into it while I'm waiting for my package to arrive!
It looks a bit like a very well-used lithographic stone to me - a very fine sedimentary stone used in litho image printmaking.

My guess is a well oiled piece of sandstone. Sorry.
I've seen something similar in an antique store close to me but the "stone" is wood and it will not come out of the case or what ever it is. They are asking $20 for it.
Sure be nice to see some close ups after a lapping.
Interesting rock.

That stone is from MARS!!! Probably about 1.500.000 grit.
Now you need 20,50,150,300,800 thousand grit stones
otherwise the 1.500.000 grit stone is useless.:)
Seriously I have no idea what that stone is. Looks nice though.
