I though that you guys would like to look at this old thing, The hone that it came with is a laudys hone and it works nice for a touch up razor, I m happy that i saved this instruction sheet and the hone from rotting up in the old dark corner of the antque store I hunted them down in.
Thanks for posting that! :)
Hmmm ... guess I gotta get me some Kerosine ... ugh. Thanks for the pic & post.
Anytime i know i like to see these old types of things so i figured that you guys would too. I dont know what the keresone would have been used for.
I got to use this baby and it has really brought back my edge to sharpness again, It took form last year untill now to start to pull because i have soo littole hair to cut. Still dont know any more about the Laudys hone. if anyone has one of these or knows anythign about this brand please let me know, but for what i paid for it im more than happy the the edges it produces.
Barber's hones are fun, just slap some wet lather on them with your brush, make 3-4 strokes and you're all set to shave again.
Nice!
thats what i did i used my leftover lather and did 5 swipes and it really brought the edge back to life again.
One of the properties of kerosene is that it is a very fine oil. It has the same function as water or lather. It reduces the buildup of swarf on the hone...and it stinks!:)
Ah, the marketing lure of old. Nice stuff.
Regards,
EL
Do you guys think i got a good deal on the hone, i paid 10$ for it and i think it works fine.
How can you beat it for $10 !!
You made a good deal. The only way to pay less is to find them at garage sales & flea markets and even then you will not know until you try them on a razor.
:tu
Thanks, the guy at the antique store had no clue what it was for. I pulled it out of a box of knife stuff and when he asked why i wanted it i told him I wanted it for my Straightrazor. He asked if anyone still used those things. I told him only about 10,000 or so people that get together on a place called Straightrazorplace and desucss the best way to keep this artfrom alive. He dident know what to charge me for it so i said i will give ya 10$ for it and he said sure. so i felt as if i had made a good deal and im sure the guy will be talking about the strange young man that used straightrazors still whenever the subject of hones is brought up.
