Help Plz

So, I have a Norton 4k & 8k. I've watched a few videos on honeing so i gave it a try. The 4k I soaked in water for 10 minutes. I used a piece of 400 grit sand papper in order to work up a slurry. I did roughly 4 pasess on each side keepping the spine on the stone. The only pressure applied was the weight of the razor. Then I splashed some water on the 8k grit, same technique for the slurry. Agian 4 passes nice and easy. I then stropped the razor and used it. It felt like it was pulling my hair of instead of slicing right thru. I honed one more time. The razor was actually a little sharper. Which was nice, but i feel it isn't all the way there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you gentlemen.

at first dont use sandpaper to make slurry. Second from where you got to make slurry on synthetic hones. Lastly giive us more information about early condition of your blade. Was it shave ready before or it is bay blade etc

The rzr was shave ready. It was in extremely good condition. I felt I should hone it after using it for a while. So I do not need to make a slurry? This is just my first time. I don't know too much.

Do not use slurry and only use the 8K. Perform 10-15 roundtrip laps between each shave, strop for 30-50 laps just before each shave. It will gradually get better.

Read up on honing in the Wiki. it has a lot of basic info.

I suggest you do some reading about honing in the Wiki and in the stickies of the honing section.
First, the sandpaper that you used, was it wet/dry sandpaper or regular dry garnet paper? Only wet/dry should be used on a water hone.
Second, if your razor was shave ready, you should only hone it if it is no longer shaving properly, not because it had been a while.
Third, if your razor was shave ready, there was no reason to go down to a 4k hone.
Fourth. Did you lap your Norton? The 4k in general needs to be lapped quite a bit to eliminate extraneous grit in the outer surface.
Finally, in general a slurry is used for heavier cutting power. That is the opposite of what you want when you are doing a touch up of a recently shave ready razor.

Awesome, thank you genltemen. I had read some of the wiki, I'm too A.D.D. I skimm thru everything, ha. I used wet/dry papper, I'm now under the impression that is unnessecary. I'll read up a bit. I also do the basics. Sit, have a good light, good posture, elbow high. Things of that nature. thank you for the prompt resoponses. Oh yeah, I felt the RZR had become dull, It didn't shave as well as it had when it arrived. I felt I would try to bring that perfect edge back. Open for any Tips. Thnx.
