MuellerThuringian as a finisher stone?

I am currently looking for a finishing stone and i did find this: Olivia's handgemachte Naturseifen

Or would the chines 12k be a better choice?

My vote would be for the Ch12K. It is a slow cutter ( about 100 laps) but pretty predictable in the results. I like them so much I purchased a second as a backup.

I ordered a couple a while back and have opened one up, lapped it, and used it. Long story short, I would not recommend it as a finisher. I have not at this time determined where it falls in the "grit" scale, but what I do know is that it will deteriorate a shave ready razor that shaves smoothly to scratchy. From those couple razors I tested it on, I know that my shapton 8k is a smoother shaver than the finish I received from that stone. Under 100x it does NOT polish the edge. I did this honing starting with a slurry using the provided slurry stone and would keep adding water until it was only the stone and water. I've put it in my "soaker" tub and haven't gone back to it to try and "learn" what it has to offer.

Please keep in mind that these are natural stones and there could be a chance I just got a "not so good" meuller stone. I'll open up the other one one of these days when I get back to honing a few razors.

At this time, I would recommend the chinese stone. I do know for a fact that my chinese stones are more finishers than my muellers...actually by a long shot.

If you go for a chinese stone, get a larger one as they are slow stones and the more stone the better. I purchased both of mine from Woodworking Plans & Tools | Fine Woodworking Project & Supplies at Woodcraft

Thanks for you answers. It seems like i will go for the C12K , Unfatherly I live in europe so i will have to look for the c12k inside the union. If anyone have any place to recommend except the polish lad on ebay it would be most welcome

It is not like an old thuringian stone or Escher at all. I bought one a few years ago and it sits in a drawer somewhere not being used.


I would say it is 6K.

You may have better luck finding a thuringian, they are more common over there on the other side of the pond...
