    Default Base for Chosera/Pro 1k

So, I just got the holy grail of bevel setters and am very excited. It is by far the largest hone I have in terms of length. I got mine without a base, so I'm wondering if I should glue it down to something stable before I use it.

What do you guys use for bases and adhesive?

I have a few Chosera stones all without bases because that's how I prefer my stones, I don't like stones on bases I think it can hold in moisture and lead to problems, just use a adjustable stone holder.

I had the same issue, but had a gokumyo 20k that came with a nice base that barely fit the chosera size. Sold the gokumyo and was left empty handed. I've also been annoyed trying to hold the skinny dmt diamond plates during lapping. Long story short, amazon has steelex stone holders for under 20 bucks. They are awesome and should hold any size hone you encounter.

I should say that I do have a stone holder. I'm more wondering about how fragile it might be without being attached to something sturdy

I'm confused. What stone holder do you have? Mine is very "sturdy" and I have no issues. When I'm honing all I look for is that my stone is elevated enough for ease of motion and the stone doesn't move back and forth, both problems solved with the steelex adjustable stone holder.

When I got the Suehiro gokumyo 20k I fell in love with the base. (the stone is not attached, but just fits in the rubber base when in use)

I put a WTB in the classifieds for the base only and a kind hearted member saw it, sent two of them to me and I use them for just about everything but the diamond plates. For those I use the standard rubber/steel bolt thingie.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I use two of these. One to hold whatever stone I'm using and another one to keep my 325 DMT in.

There's enough adjustment left that I could use a hone 1.5"'s longer than anything I own.

I agree. I feel lost without it now. The holder roy showed is the one I have now, and I think I like it better. I don't have to squeeze the chosera to fit anymore, and it makes using a dmt 1000x easier.

Sorry, I'm really not being clear enough. I have a Naniwa adjustable stone holder. I'm talking about durability of the stone over the long term and it's ability to take the stresses of use and lapping if not attached to a permanent sturdy base like a floor tile or piece of wood. Some people do this with thinner naturals and this stone is very long and less than an inch thick, so I was wondering if I should be concerned with this one even though it is a synthetic.

I don't see that being an issue. You could make a base if you feel the need, but it's definitely not necessary.
