I too, just bought and received my second JNAT. Nakayama Namito Kiita Maruichi, from a different vendor. Lapping was a pain. I only intended to lap the stamps, but the edges chipped. Lap some more. Almost there - another edge chips. There were also several rough hewn edges that needed attention. I figure I lapped...$50 away down the drain easy.
When a piece would chip off, I glued it with CA and let it dry and then lapped it again.
I was down to 600 grit when another tiny piece chipped off. More CA, more lapping, more $ down the drain. I am almost there.
Had to step away from it. I spent 10 hours over two days - lapping.
Anyway, the CA seems to be great at coating these stones. Any thoughts guys?
The stone was listed as medium/hard. It was not the hardest one to lap for me but it was not easy. My Nakayma Asagi is harder and finer.
The slurry is a nice light Grey Poupon color.
My first real razor is also now on the way. A DD GoldEdge. I can now quit torturing the $5 Campbell.
I have spent thousands on hones, in no small part, thanks to you nuts. It's all yours fault. If I have never found this place, I could have bought a pile of triple edges that would have been passed on to my great grand children.
I am glad to have the GE on the way. Now I can concentrate on...more rocks. Thanks enablers!
