Thanked: 4cut cloth by accident
Evening gents... so there was a little accident. And i need to cut shin part of family member's jeans. Happened while I was shaving; so guess what was used to cut the jeans =D... 5/8 stainless steel Dovo. Professionally horned (got it from one of the online vendors) ..pix attached
Now question is when i came back to finish my shave. The SR would was just slipping off my face. Cant be as I still have my side burns to fix (i.e had grown beard there). Finished w/ Dorko SR.
Today I tried to put it a grind on 20-40-60 on Norton 4k-8k-15k (shapton) and then on leather about 40X patterns and another 20-30X on cloth side.
Have not shaved back with it. But towards the heel of SR feel a even so little bump (i.e. my nail gets stuck in the metal just stopped short of hitting the bevel).
How badly have i done a piece of work on this =D ...any suggestion to fix this would be appreciated. I was lookin in the FAQ section on fixing the hairline bends in SR's but could not find it.

I'm having a hard time following what actually happened. If you did a thumbnail test, the razor should be rehoned and stropped. Strop on leather after cloth.
If you nicked the razor, then re-honing is required.
If you used a professionally honed razor to shorten someone's jeans you should re-evaluate the fragility of an edge and get it re- honed. Honestly, if you cut someone's jeans with a razor I had honed I'd be a little disappointed.Last edited by AFDavis11; 12-05-2011 at 10:20 PM.

Actually if you with cut jeans with your straight razor, you should go stand in a corner, for a long time!

You may have discovered something, the HCT. That's the Hanging Cloth Test. Congratulations!

Thanked: 4=D i use to be kicked out in convent by the fine nuns n padres ^_^ ...seems those days have transcended to my late 20s now.
To the matters at hand then... attached pix of what I'm trying to say (I'm lookin for this in FAQ's) but could not find the pix)...the small red bending something like a wire bend. Is what i think has happened to this SR.
Like it too as I do not have to baby sit this one w/ mineral oil after shave. Dry in sun and off it goes to storage.
**sobs and puts his hands to the ears n turns to corner outside the class** (and admires MISS mental image of a fine lady here in nun clothing)

Thanked: 20Go back to the 4k side of the Norton and stay with it until you can shave arm hair with the entire edge. That will mean you've reestablished a bevel. Then, and only then, should you move up to a higher grit.

OK! Straight razors as utility knives. They work really well for a very short period of time. I have some vintage blades that have problems preventing their use on a face that I have honed out and use around the shop to cut things like paper, packing tape, bubble wrap, and even leather. They don't get used on skin. Use your Dovo if you like but you will have problems with it afterwards when face shaving. I recommend expensive, new straight razors for face only but do what you like as it's your razor. How'd the jeans come out?

From the OP's post, It sounds like the cutting of jeans was an emergency situation (at least I hope it was) I'm no honer so if it was me id be sending it off to lynn or GGsixgun to be honed professionally.... but thats just me
