Craig,
let us know how it is it, thanks.
Tell us about the stone, why three slurry stones? Nice!
well the stone is 8 1/2 inchs long on the narrow end of the stone it is 1 1/2 wide and at the other end about 1 3/4 wide three slurry stones one is of the same material of the stone the other two are of different material i'll use water on this stone
Very interesting & gorgeous indeed...would mind PMing me where exactly where you got it...
Can't wait to hear how it hones as well.
Scott
the other two are more coarse im guessing.
what material, and what effective grit guesstimation for the other two.
i would say the cream color one is the coarsest one the blue stone is medium in fineness and the slurry stone in the box is the finest made of the same material as the hone
Very cool I hope you can tell us more after you start using it. With the three different slurry stones it sound like using a Japanese natural. Do you know what these stones were meant to hone?
well on the web site i bought it from they use them on knives and razors it depends on how hard the stone is the covenant stone can range from 800grit to 10,000 + grit
For those that might be interested here is a vid of Tsil testing the covenant stones:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uwk7J...layer_embedded
did you mean 800 or 8,000?
800 grit at the low end tc has alot of different covenant stones
What site did you get it from and did you request a specific fineness or is it just luck of the draw
tcblades.com and yes i asked for a stone in the grit range of 8-10k
would you please post a couple close photos of that razor you are honing.... i want to make one like that...... please??
no... there is a video of the man testing/demonstrating the stones.... i would love a close up photo of the razor he is honing in that video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uwk7JgTr1bo&feature=player_embedded
all ok well the guy in the video and the guy that posted the video arent the same guy but you could e-mail the guy at tcblades.com and ask him about the razor
no problem
wow.... i emailed these people and asked nicely to see a photo of the razor he was honing.........
got a immediate reply telling me to send my specs and they could build me what i want........
i then resent asking to see a photo of the one in the photo as i wanted to know more about IT....
reply came within a hour
wow.... there will never be a penny of my money heading in that direction...... i will purchase my razors/hones/anything else anywhere else.......Quote:
It's a standard Japanese style razor - it's that simple.
Thanks again,
TC
He was kind enough to answer you twice. The video is a year old, he may not know which razor it was or he may have sold it. Why bash him over that?
You even said you were going to make one like it, so you weren't even planning to purchase anything.
Sounds like they may have rubbed you wrong Paco, but they did answer your question & rather quickly. Try to imagine how many e-mail inquiry's they get in a day. Your typical Japanese razor is just that, a typical Japanese razor. The razors most of us use are considered Western style razors.
I too have considered making a Japanese style of razor to see how I like it. Best of luck!
There may be some pictures of similar razors in TC Blades' Photobucket album, he also has a Razor album.
Could be this razor:

yes he answered quickly.... yes he rubbed me the wrong way..... i will spare the details but i don't enjoy being referred to as a "design thief"..... when i expressed amazement at meeting the person who invented "simple japanese razors i received another ugly email that contained one not so nice sentence about my mother.......*(granted i did refer to him as a a$$hole)
i will spare further details but gladly post copies of the emails so people can see what they are possibly dealing with......
maybe he and i are the types of people who cannot interact on any level.... i don't know... i will not have any further contact with this company......
your results may vary........
thank you for posting the photo of that jap style razor..... it is a beautiful piece of art ...
Looks almost like zebrawood. Very nice patterns.
Sham I linked you their site earlier today. They have a bunch of stones, some are like wood and 1k they go all the way to 8-10k and look different.
I have had my run in with Tsil before and I too will not spend a single cent on him. Bad company if you ask me.
ok review of the covenant stone first looks when the stone is dry its has cream and bulish streaks when wet the cream streaks look beige and the bluish streaks look grey very unique looking stone the razor i choose to use is a genco easy aces hone started with a naniwa 2k then a shapton 5k a naniwa 8k snow white then a sgs 16k and finished on the covenant stone with water i like to go higher in grit when testing a stones finish on a razor i think its faster to max out the stone ability so i did 50 round trips stroped and shaved the edge was very sharp it took all the harshness out of the edge that was left by the sgs but i felt that the stone had more to give so i waited three days and another 50 round trips and that was it im sure i got the best edge that stone could offer in the end the stone gave a comfortably shave no harsh edge it reminded me of a coti's edge meaning you would have to try hard to cut yourself over all my experience buying this stone from tc was great he is very knowledgeable about his craft i got a great stone at a great price he worked with me to make sure i was happy his craftsmanship is top notch which can be seen in his work from the the box that fits the stone perfectly to the stone that he harvest himself and the other tools he make's razors and knives i'm now in the process of getting a custom japanese style razor made by tc i highly recommend him to anyone who would be interested in a covenant stone or razor my dealings with tc have been pleasant he has always shown me respect thanks for all the questions i hope everyone has enjoyed this thread
i am happy you had a better interaction with him than i did.....
and just as you wanted to let everyone know of your good experience i was simply passing along my very bad one... very glad your stone is top notch and i hope your new razor in the making is awesome....
Paco..
lol yeah i do have to watch my punctuation !
