If you do a google search of "Nakayama Maruka stamps " in images , you will see many with the same formations as mine...

It helps to talk with Alex, he knows his stuff.
Attached is an image of a stone I got from Alex, an akepin. It's a softer stone, very nice and pretty with pink bands, but marginal as a razor finisher.
You can see the 'EP' stamp, which is not EP as you might guess. You can also see a similar stamp to other stones in a rectangular box on the left, which I have seen on many stones of a wide variety of qualities. You cannot buy using these stamps. many of them just say that it's from the mountain above Kyoto, which is a good thing but not very meaningful. Or, 'this is the real deal baby!" Let us not forget that the Japanese marketed their goods successfully and stamps, even a maruka stamp, is marketing to a great degree.
Cheers, Steve
Here is the difference between Maruishi an Maruka stamps
Maruichi:
市印 - Maruichi jirushi, Maruichi brand.
特撰 - Tokusen, especially selected.
It has been said that this stamp was used by Kato-san when he ran the quarry at Nakayama. Allegedly, not all stones with this stamp are from Nakayama. For whatever reason - there doesn’t seem to be any hard data on this stamp’s origin, use, or history.
Maruka - ㋕正本山
Translation: Maruka Shou-Honyama. A stamp that is found on the ends of stones quarried at Nakayama. This was used by Hatanaka, the circled ‘Ka’ character paid homage to Kato-san, the previous owner of the mine. The translation of ‘maru’ is circle; the circled Ka translates to Maru-Ka or Maruka. the rest of the characters are Shou-hon-yama which mean ‘Real Original Mountain’.
No one knows really the history of the stamps.
I see.. So the mistake is in the advertisement.

I just gambled on ebay. Fingers crossed that I scored a full size kiita... please be advised. I like risks and this method of shopping for jnats should never be contemplated by beginners.
