Lap your new hones!!
I got my new Nortons out today and lapped them. Not only were they NOT flat but after lapping the surface was very much improved. The 8k went from 400 grit sandpaper to a fine creamy 8k. Now I have nice clean hones to start with. Let the fun begin.

This is the norm for Norton's and Naniwa Super Stones. You have a great stone there that will do everything you need for touching up a razor and keeping it "right". Only thing else you might need would be a quality 1K. Have fun with the learning and shaving your future holds

Yeah, those Nortons can clog up quickly, too, with swarf and slurry, as well as tape residue. I like to refresh mine periodically under running water with a well-worn DMT8C, and follow that up with both my C12K and my Naniwa 12k with light figure-eights. This seems to keep all of my hone surfaces close to mirror-polished, and helps them cut and polish in a more smooth, fine and predictable way.

OF course if it gets really out of true, you can grid-mark it with a pencil and lap until all the marks are gone.

Lynn mentions this in one of his videos about the Norton 4k/8k. I'm glad I watched it first because it took me a while to get the rough top layer off and get to smooth stone. If I hadn't watched his video I don't think I would have lapped it for long enough.
