I'm sure this device is something Garrison Keillor would have advertised on "A Prairie Home Companion."

my understanding is that the actual cutting edge does not contact the marbles, only the sides of the bevel does, so they do not work. i guess at best the edge contacts one marble or the other but not both. as the marbles surfaces contacts each other it approaches a zero angle, and the ~16 degree angle of the razor is to obtuse (relatively) to make proper contact. i wish i could find the explanation that i came across to illustrate. these were probably not meant for straight razors, but the some principal applies even with DE/SE bladea. again, has anyone ever used one successfully?
Thanks for the input guys. Not sure what happened here that I didn't get e-mail updates on replies...I usually do.
Anyway, I figured if these things were really worth their salt everybody'd be using them, but then again I know how many of us are "purists" so maybe this was too easy???
Ezpz, I think you're right that the curves of the marbles are such that a blade edge would not make contact. Maybe if they were much smaller they would work.
Thanks for the wealth of responses guys.
Peace,
Jim
Jim,
Totally off topic but Brother, your F-1 is the bees knees!
I like the one with the blue balls.
So....nobody got one and tried it yet (on razors)?
