Stone ID

This stone appears to be sedimentary.
It measures 15/16" x 2" x 8"
It produces a grey slurry
It is very hard and has a lot of grit like a coticule
Holding it to the light and looking down it, it is polished like glass where I started to flatten it.
The discolor in the stone are stains. It is pretty the lighter color you see in the stone which is a light grayish beige with very faint yellow veins.
My dmt 325 will do it slowly. I think I going to flatten it on glass with silicon carbide. Any help will be appreciated

The hardness and woodgrain-looking sediment lines make me think of a Hindostan stone from Indiana, but I've never actually handled one so consider this a second-hand speculation.

My dmt 325 would not hardly touch it, so I used silicon carbide on plate glass and got it flat and clean. I will try to post some better pictures tomorrow. What is the grit of of a Hindostan?

Well, since it's a natural you can't really pin down a grit. Some hindostans make very nice finishers. The stone was also quarried to make tombstones, according to Neil Miller. Search the site for Hindostan and you'll find a recent thread about them. There's a post with a link to one for sale by Neil Miller, with his usual dose of great information.
