Thanked: 10What are these Hones?
So I bought some "practice" razors off the Bay (to practice honing and restoration) and the lot came with two stones. I didn't even look at the stones but I finally cleaned them up. I'm not sure what they are or if they are even razor hones, could be slate for all i know. The surface of this hone is glass smooth. There is a red vein running through it, it's next to impossible to raise a slurry on (there was a slurry stone in the lot). Anyone know what it might be? I've looked through all the "what is this hone?" posts and am not confident that I know what it is. It also doesn't seem to hold water, if you wet the surface the water just kinda of pools.

PHIG, or Chinese 12K. Should be plenty of info here if you search with those terms.

Yes to the above answers. The one with orange stripe could have been parted off from my favorite C-12k. Those hones with inclusions seem to cut faster. I am not at all sure that bit is useful and true information.
