What not to do to your Coti
I sat one of my clamps atop my Coti the other night. The rubber feet of the clamp transferred onto the Coti and not even my DMT 325 could get it off after a normal lapping. I'm sure it will eventually go but geez, it's kind of a bummer. Didn't seem to effect the ability of the hone to do its job, but then I'm relatively new to honing. Anyway, thought I'd share the mistake for other noobies.

So it is like the color transferred and stained it ? IOW, not actual rubber clinging to the surface ? If it is stained, and it was mine, I would try laying it in a bed of baking soda, kosher salt, or maybe even cat litter. Something absorbent. Maybe it would take the stain out and shouldn't harm the stone.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

There are worse tragedies - such as less than great edges.
Sorry for the hassle. They are interesting and amazing rocks.

Update: I tried scrubbing the Coti with Comet. That did not work. I tried a bleach solution...no go. I tried packing the stone in Kosher salt overnight...no change. The only thing left to try is warm sunshine, which is uncharacteristically missing today...it's raining in SoCal. As soon as the sun comes out, we'll give that a try.

Plasticizer from the rubber leached into the stone matrix. It will wear off over time.
