If it's from AJsomethinorother it's the real deal.
rodb had one at the MN meet last weekend. I spent a little bit of time playing with it, and looking at the scratch pattern under the microscope. I ordered one for myself yesterday.
Search the forums for "Dragon's Tongue" to find something probably very similar.
EDIT: Ah, someone with experience - are they indeed similar? Certainly a bit more pricey, it looks like.
Rod had the three stone set - dragon's tongue, llynn melynallin (or whatever), and welsh thuringian. The llyn mellanyllan (or whatever) is a fine stone, and would make a great finisher. The welsh thuringian is even better, according to my microscope and calibrated hair tests. To be fair, I have not shaved with an edge finished on either to compare shaving characteristics.
Of the three, the dragons tongue clearly had the coarsest scratch pattern.
Come on even americans should know that Wales is on an island and Thuringia is on the continent. In seller's defense:
But I still think it's his responsibility to not be just repeating whatever BS comes up on the shaving forums. Imagine if everybody started calling the PHIG a 'chinese 12000 grit hone', all those kittens and puppies that are going to die...Quote:
THE NICK NAME "WELSH THURINGIAN"* HAS COME FROM THE SHAVING FORUMS (THEIR WORDS NOT MINE)
There's BS on a shaving forum? I thought it was all BBS...
Yeah I was wondering which forum called it that. Did some of us do that? Anyways, go to the advanced honing forum and look for something like Lyn Mellynlyn/ welsh slate combo hone. Then settle in for a long read. :)
BS, BBS, BBW it's all so confusing. I am off to google to look that last one up, I'm sure their images will make it all crystal clear...
You ought to try Google image search for both wet bbw and dry bbw to compare the differences.
And once again, a thread goes awry. lol. I wish there was a way to discreetly give points for the previous two statements. But since it's all in print, I just gotta do this I guess. :roflmao
