Stefan, the Ume 1000 comes in three hardnesses now. The middle one
is the very likely the same as the JNS 1000. The stones are made by the same company,

I'll keep using my bester 1.2k, but these stones are interesting no doubt.

I don't know who makes it and I really don't care, this is an excellent stone. A client just sent me three eBay specials to hone. I did the grunt work on my very well used 325 and 600 DMT and then the JNS 1K, the JNS took the scratches out with no problem and got me to the Norton 4/8K quickly.

What are the differences in the stones? From all I can tell by videos, descriptions, etc. they are the same. Only thing saying they are different or the same is the people selling them. Is there an unbiased opinion that has tested both of these? I have watched the video comparisons and can't really tell much difference, if any. Help.

The stones are different dimensions, just because they are same color does not mean they are the same stone. I have two sigma powers that are exactly the same when you look at them but totally different stones at the same grit level; one is hard one is soft.

I watched the videos , many people on another forum saw the videos too (there was a huge discussion about that) and they agreed the stones are different, just watch carefully. One of the members of that forum did not believe the stones are not the same so he got both and posted that they in fact are not the same. I do not see how choosing a stone can be such an issue, just get one and use it.

If you are not sure which one you want, remember there are also other proven options like Chosera and Shapton and Norton. You can go for one of them they work great.

For me, it is trying to determine

a) IF they are different

b) What IS different about them.

If they're just one is slower cutting that the other, I couldn't justify paying the extra money. They're so similar in size, that would not be an issue. One is 5cm longer, the other 5cm wider, or something like that. Pretty similiar in size.

Regarding the videos...what is it I am watching for? Could anyone please explain what I am noticing to determine they are in fact different? I do not really know what to watch for and what I have seen has shown ME (an untrained eye) very little.

My JNS 1K and the Nubatama Ume 1K I tried awhile back look almost identical but the JNS is a bit bigger. The main differences in the two as far as I saw is that the JNS seemed harder, doesn't produce slurry easily and it leaves a shallower scratch pattern. Both are very good 1Ks, which one is better is completely subjective.
