Thanked: 884Yet another hone ID.
A good friend gave me this. It was his grandfather's. It was pretty chewed up and dished out when I got it. I've gotten it back to pretty much flat with 400 silicon carbide (several sheets worth) and water.

Thanked: 247Yeah, I'd like to say it's coticule also. If you got it flat with only 400 grit sandpaper, I guess it has to be. 400 grit sandpaper would have been futile on an Ark. Congratulations!

Thanked: 884I can guarantee it's not an Arkansas.
The dark side is pretty soft and was scratched and gouged. It was also the side that had the deepest belly in it. Is the slate side the "finishing" side or just something for it to set on?
I've played with the yellow side a bit, but never tried it with slurry. Guess I'll have to cure that.
Thanks for the help.

A well used coticule fairly old but with still lots of use left in it. A treasure!
