Thanked: 66Latest flea market Coticule
Found this at the flea market today, I about had a stroke. I don't know much about Coti's. So I am wondering what this black spots mean? I was thinking it has a different name or shows different quality when this are present in the layer? Please educate me of that is possible. Thankyou for your time,

Black spots or lines on a coticule are usually manganese deposits. Usually this will make the stone faster than usual ones. Try it with water and see if you get metal on the stone.
Old coticules are nearly impossible to identify by layer as they are no longer mined. I do like my old stones better, enjoy!

The lines are probably manganese, the spots, I would guess are BBW leaching into the coticule. Lovely looking stone, try it out and see.
