I guess I am not following you, i have said it was a coti all along, from the moment I put it in my hands,
I have two others coticules to compare with. I can say I hold them all three together and they are as much alike as can be.
But.
at the same time I value others opinions, and am not stubborn, I would love nothing more than an objective opinion. I will analyze the data and do whatever research it takes to agree or disagree with the hypothesis, That's what I love about natural stones is the difference in opinion and mystery of it all. I am like a sponge soaking up as much info as possible. He who refuses to stop learning will.
As I live in the land of the coticule, I have seen quite an amount of them.
This is certainly one of them. It's in rough shape on the sides, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a coticule.
i have to go on what the op said that it smells like a coti but my gut tells me its synthetic i dont like the red/brown spots the way the chip looks look at the grit in the close up pic !
Indeed, there are red/brownish spots in the stone. Personnally, for me that doesn't say a thing. I have seen coticules with red/brown/black/green spots and stripes in them. About the chip in the stone...it could be from falling on something. But on the picture I can't really tell what grit it is.
If it is making white slurry then it is a coticule.
indian stone which are synthetic make white slurry too
India? Or Indian stone? I have lots of India Stones, it is not one of those. Google found nothing on Indian stone that didn't re-direct to India stone,
india makes a off white slurry i have a lot of aluminum oxide and silicon carbide stones that make white to off white slurry.
My opinion if your creating slurry on an India stone or alumina oxide, then you should just be putting river sand on the stone, I suppose if you're sharpening an axe or a chainsaw it's ok.. but an aluminum oxide "slurry if you want to call it that" will never come near my razors nor would a clean A.O. Stone for that matter. :). If I am using one of my India stones on a knife and it forms a slurry it means it's time to clean/lap the stone and start again or chunk it in the trash.
