Default Scotch Dual Hone - Water of Ayr & Tam O'Shanter

Got this in the mail today, I need to spend a few minutes with a DMT to clean it up. but is in great shape.

One side is 'Water of Ayr' Stone the other 'Tam O'Shanter' stone not bad for $20.00
Keeping this one in my personal collection, and very excited about it.

I need to do a little more reading up, this is my first example of either stone, I have only had a it a few hours and need to figure out which side is the finer of the two...

Great deal, great find. The WOA is the finer of the two. The Tam is the speckled side A.K.A. "snakestone".

Wow! that is a great stone!
JimmyHAD has it right. The dark side is the WOA and the finest .
One of our guys, Coully ( Simon Coul) who hails from Scotland visited the mine and purchased a stone just like yours from the owner Kenneth Montgomerie. It then went to JimmyHAD and then to me! . It is a great combo hone that is very hard to find. I value mine at $300 plus but will never sell it.

BTW, the TOS , when used with a slurry, is the best 6000 grit stone I have ever found and very, very useful. The WOA side is a finishing side. Have fun playing with it.

I don't have my tape measure handy, but its within an 1/8 of a dollar bill. I have not touched a razor to it yet, but sharpened a few knifes, I really like the feedback. Very similar to an Escher on the WOA side. Thank for all the information, I have very pleased with it. I could not believe I lucked out, just the right time and right place.

That is often the case. It just does not come often enough.
