    Default "Welsh" Thuringian... Any Good?

    Hello Fellow Honing Junkies,

I saw that there was a humungous thread on these a while back, but I was just curious if anyone still uses these on a regular basis and what you think of them. It says that the grit is approx. 15k, so I picked one up as I figured it would be a good finisher to try. The price was pretty reasonable, so I'm hoping I can use it to compliment my new-fangled Coticule for finishing.

Anyone have any opinions they'd like to share on these "other" Thuri's? Single Natural Welsh Slate 15K Sharpening Stone "Welsh Thuringian" | eBay

With a coticule, I'm not sure if you actually need it.

To put a Grit number on these is just all kinds of wrong... IMHO

Read through that thread , they are good stones but in summary They aint 15k and the finish IME is not after a good Coti it would be instead of a good Coticule finish..

Ahhh...good to know! I appreciate the info. I have just been looking to try a few different options as finishers, and figured with the reasonable price that I'd give it a shot. I will remember to use this as an alternative to the Coticule, rather than WITH it...

Yes; that's the one. I just figure now that I'm really getting into honing, it would be good to have a few different options

If it's Welsh, it has to be good. I'm Welsh so I should know (Well Welsh Australian actually...Makes me even better!)
