Been almost a year since this was last dug up, but curious to see if the response has changed any over time and what any newer users that have not responded are using. I find it very interesting that 80.11% use some form of natural finisher, while 44.62% use synthetics. Clearly there's a little overlap since the poll allows for multiple answers. I'm currently on a Welsh slate binge, though I do have a couple of other options from the list to choose from. I didn't mark those when I responded though, I don't know that my "C12K" will ever see much use now that I have arguably better options, and the barber hones are meant for a different purpose all together, so I don't consider them 'finishers' even though they could fill that role.
I haven't seen this poll before, I think. I use an Arkansas Translucent for my finishing and it is not one of the choices in the poll.

The finisher I use 95% of the time is a nice piece of Sioux Quartzite that I cut myself. It gives a mirror polish and smooth edges.
Yea, I was disappointed there was no category for Arkies, or "other natural finishers" to be somewhat all inclusive. But, starting a new poll to include them at this point would likely lose data from people that no longer post...well, something to think about at any rate.
I just got an SS 12k and a coticule, so I'm guessing most of my endeavors will involve those for now. I really do enjoy the feel of my PHIG and Trans ark, so I doubt I'll get rid of them, but it likely won't see as much use.
Most with a bit of experience on different finishers don't use Arkansas stones as very few are considered finishers & they take WAY too long to finish a razor.
I'm sure that's true, but I'm also sure that mglindo isn't the only one using a translucent or surgical black to finish his razors. I'd say they would have at least as much a following as B. hones. Maybe even the Suehiro just looking about the forums. I would like to have a bench hone Washita - Black - Translucent progression. Might be slow, but it's what I learned on. And even if it didn't quite pan out for razors, there's always knives. But that's neither here nor there. The point I was getting at, is that I feel they at least deserve an option to tick on a poll like this.
I can't decide how to vote
