10 minutes!! It took me an hours to get both sides of my Norton lapped satisfactorily using wet/dry sandpaper, purely because the 2 opposing corners on both grits were lower than the rest.

I have a question, what causes the black build up on the 8K side if you haven't finished with the 4K. I'd have thought the 8K would just take metal off more slowly so I was wondering where the black comes from? Having never had to use the 4K side yet (touchups only) I was just curious as it's not something I've experienced to date.

Lol i bought a nortons flattening stone for 25$ after watching geofatboys video. Works like a charm takes a minute on the 4k and a little longer on the 8k (seems backwards i know but my 8k side is finicky). Lapped the 4k side 3x - no more grids and the 8k about 5-6... with tiny grids left in the corners a cm in...even after an olympic full body 10 min session of full upper body weight scraping on a table top :banghead:. So i figured i'd just avoid those spots and hone cloer to the center - works great. Seems the more i hone off the 8k the more polished my edge gets. Did like 50 laps on the 8k (probobly more cause i was having so much fun) and 100x felt/leather stropping and my blade looks like a mirror. Passes the HHT with flying colors popping hairs hanging more than an inch root end or not out whilst making a lovely samurai like tinging sound after each cut...lol i found myself going through my moms bed for her hairs just so i could keep doing it :rofl2:

I don't think i will pick up any honing "system" like 10 times that's it or anything like that.... just gonna keep honing till I'M happy with the way my edge looks and feels.

For any noobs out their... don't be scurd... it's so easy and fun.
