Thanked: 62Chosera 1k Question
I just recieved a 1k Chosera. I am wondering if I should soak it before I use it or just splash on some water and have at it. No instructions came with it.

I have seen both varieties suggested by other users.
Personally I soak them for a minimum of 20 minutes before I use the Chosera stones.
The 1K is not the most thirsty of them, but I still feel they all benefit from a proper soaking.
YMMV.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

I just got a 1K and usually soak it for 10 minutes before I get too anxious to start honing. I just spray it down with water as I'm using it after that and it seems to work fine.
I will say that I absolutely love it so much more than the DMT 600/1200 I was using before.

Thanked: 3795I don't have the 1k, but my 600 and 800 Choseras had instructions that called for a 20 minute soak. I would presume the 1k to be the same. I have honed after only a couple of minutes of soaking and it still worked fine. Here again, I'll bet the 1k will work the same way.

Thanked: 3164Ha ha - well it seems that even though it didn't rain on Barbra Streisand's Parade, it certainly snowed on your Chosera, Glen!
I can appreciate your HAD with low grit stones. seems to me that they make or break the job. It's no good persisting in polishing a ... well, you know what I mean!

Neil

All whetstones up to 4K need a good soaking, between 5 and 20 minutes, after that just a good spray will get the job done. IMHO!
I use regularly .22K/1K and a 4K/8K and soak them both for about 15minute each before use, after all it ''couldn't hurt?!''
My 2 cents late on the night wing.

Ah, see, that's where you're wrong. It most certainly could hurt--it could dissolve your stone, warp it into unusability, or eventually cause it to split into pieces. It all depends on what stone you're using--and if you think all makers are the same, again, I fear you're mistaken.
We're not talking about opinions, here, we're talking about materials, and their actual physical qualities.
