Talking Norton Flattening stone. More than just hone candy!

I just gotta thank Lynn again for the advise on the norton flattening stone.

I was honing a bunch of razors today, touching up the norton every so often with the flattening stone. That thing is better than sliced bread. I've used it infrequently in the past. I initially took the stone to some wet/dry sandpaper and slapped it against a piece of plexiglass to check for suction.

With all the razors coming in to hone I've had to use the stone more in one day than I have in a month. I can easily check it's level by splashing water on it and slapping it onto the plexi glass to see if it sticks.

Now if I could find something to shave other than my face, arms, chest, and legs while testing freshly honed razors I'd be good to go .

and before anyone suggests, no, I won't go there with a razor so you don't go there with the suggestions

How about a fur coat from a junk yard
Put them in the freezer for a couple of days because they sometimes are moth infested!

I use an old boar brush. A Surrey brand I had bought at my local Walgreen's for like 6 bucks when I want to perform the HHT. I got tired of yanking out my own hair only to find out I had to go back to the hone for more work. A cheap boar bristle brush works good for testing the sharpness of an edge.

The next time you go for a haircut just save the hair and then you'll have an ample supply. I'll bet you get funny looks though.

Funny, I've done the same. My wife's hair is about 18" long, so it's perfect. I can't use mine, as I have a #2 trim cut. I was going to ask her for a few strands, but since she's already nervous about my new interest, I raided her hairbrush. No need for her to find out how much time I've devoted to this recently...Works great.

Is that why the cats are always running away from me?
