Default Yoicks, that's a strong bond

I neglected to order an adjustable holder and so what I've got before me are a set of naniwas with their cute plastic bases and a DMT 325. When I use the DMT to lap the naniwas they pull such an intense suction that I can't get an easy figure 8 (or figure anything) motion going. I end up doing what I can on one end and then the other. In my fantasies lapping the stones should be easy. But in my reality it isn't.

Any tips? Less water/more water, get the holder for the DMT so I can give it more muscle, ...?

You could try soapy or more water, or rotating the DMT slightly. I would advise not to force it, you might damage the hone!

I use the adjustable stone holder

    BUT

I have always envisioned a handle mounted on the back side much like a bridge scope mount is done on a Rifle, one of these days I will try it (been saying that for almost 5 years now )

    That sounds ideal.
I actually had the stone holder checked on my order but when I switched some of the items around managed to uncheck it. Ah well, item for the future.

Are you doing it under running water?

If your kitchen sink is big enough put the DMT in it on top of some nonslip netting and lap under running water.

    Soapy water helped! Much better.

Some ceramic stones don't mix with soaps or detergents, particularly Shapton Pro's. Don't know about Naniwa but consult the instructions to be sure.

It says in the instructions that some laundry detergents are okay but liquid dish soap is not. I guess when it dries it retreats into the pores as a concentrate. Once wet again it expands to 4 times it's size which pulverizes the stone from within. The result is about 1/4 " of the surface basically turning to sand or fine powder. As long as the stone never dries you will be fine. Which proves once again you don't have to read the instructions because everybody has a well prepared reservoir to keep their hones in right ? Sorry, sometimes I can be an evil joker :<0)

I think I remember someone taking a hand sander block and affixing that to the back of the DMT with good success.
