My razor seems to be getting dull everytime I shave. I strop it and nothing. I looked at it under light and it seems like it has a ding mark or 2. I don't remember ever hitting it. Anybody that can help me out?

SRP if full of excellent honers including honemeisters Lynn and Glenn . But if you limit your search to NYC there is no better than Bayamontate. Nelson in the King of NYC.
Willing to go to NJ?
If you feel like taking a drive of about 90mins or so, we are having a small informal meetup in PA on 11/23. There is no guarantee of experience honemeisters there but there will be people with hones an honing experience. Just a thought. Shoot me a pm for details
Where in PA? If it's anywhere near Emmaus I may take the drive and visit my favorite beer distributor.
At the Cigars International in Hamburg. It is 30 miles West of Emmaus. Straight shot out the turnpike. The manager knows people are coming, and going to be honing razors in the place. If you have never been there, it is a two story mecca for cigar purchasing and smoking, complete with gigantic TV's, a bar, attractive waitresses, etc. To my knowledge, the only thing they don't have is food, but there is a BBQ place and a Red Robin in the same parking lot. It is also in the same complex as Cabella's which is a must see if you are a hunter or fisherman.
+ 1 bayamontate
+3 Nelson's the man.
+4 Nelson!
It would be nice to know who plans on coming, but other than that, there is no cost per se. Another member talked to the manager of the place, and we cannot overtake the whole store, so probably 10-15 people is about the max. That said, it is a pretty remote location for most, so that doesn't worry me.
I would think it wise that all in attendance buy something from the store to keep us in good graces. If you don't smoke cigars, maybe buy something for a friend, or get some drinks from the bar. I will probably smoke enough cigars for everyone, but it is just something to keep in mind, as we are using a public retail space.
I live in Nj but work in the city. Does bayamontate have a shop or email?
I dropped my razors off today before class. Great guy, can't wait to get them back
You'll have them back tomorrow, same Bat time, same Bat station.
I can hone in New York City.
I can hone where the girls are pretty.
I can hone and sing this ditty.
Sure it rhymes, but is it witty?
James.
Damn I'd totally go to that, except it's a saturday and I can't go on a Saturday.
Michael
That pa meet sounds fun but looks like it is almost 3 hrs from my door step. Looks like I have to sit that one out..... Too bad I love myself a nice cigar.
I am the one that set this up. The Manager of CI actually told me he is collector, but has been inactive for awhile. Apparently he has 40 blades.
+1 to supporting the store financially. They do have food, but just bar snack type foods. They can't exceed a percentage of their income and still allow smoking.
They do allow ordering from the adjacent restaurants, who will deliver.
Anyone who is going can PM me....please
Just an update: picked my razors up today from Nelson and they were nice and sharp. He also watched my stropping technique and told me it was excellent(of course it is). Thank you nelson and to anybody in the area, I highly recommend him for sharpening your razors
My pleasure Ric! From your original post I thought that maybe your razors became dull as a result of less than adequate stropping. That was definitely not the case, you do strop exceptionally well.
In case you're interested I used the following progression(s) on your razors. On the one with the chips, I went JNS 1K, Striped Iyoto, Asano Botan, Tenyjou, Mejiro on a Nakayama Kiita. Tsushima Kuro Toishi with Tsushima nagura, poured that broken down slurry back onto the Nakayama, diluted further, followed this with Koma and Wakasa Tomo. 30/60 Linen/English Bridle.
On the blonde scaled one I basically used the same progression without the JNS 1K but added Atsu after Tenyjou.
The true test is the shave, I hope you enjoy it.
PM sent.
I stop stropping when the razor stops singing, usually around 30/60. It varies for everyone.

At the Long Island/NYC/NJ meet up I was fortunate to have two razor honed by Nelson (Bayamontate)
On of those razors was a Mastro Livi Damascus 8/8 feathered handle razor. I have to say it is my absolute favorite razor. But lately I felt our relationship was going stale. She was not as giving of herself as in the past. I found myself having to push her along as if she was dragging her toe and her heel. like a good therapist Nelson searched out the problem and eradicated it. Our love affair is back in full swing. I took her out today for the first time since she got her touch up. I felt like I should be yelling "timber!" from the top of my lungs. I was so amazed watching those facial hairs fall down and swept away like a Caterpillar pushing a snow drift. WOW is the only word that I am able to express. My vocabulary is not sophisticated enough to properly explain the surge of emotion that swelled in my heart as I found my true love again.
Thank You Nelson.
I would like in on this. I live in Staten Island, NY and work in Chatham, NJ.
Anyone willing to meet up?
Mike
I could meet you. Right now I am planning on going but work may prevent it. I will know later in the week.
I live right where interstate 80 & 81 intersect. Its about 30-45 minutes south from there. But looking at a map its around an hour and a half to get around where I am for you.
Thank you Sam! That is a beautiful razor, more art than razor actually. It was a pleasure to hone.
It was a real treat to watch it being done. I picked up some great tips from you. And the razor was a real nice looker! Looking forward to next time.
Three hours to PA for straights and cigars? 2 hours, 14 min. I've driven farther for less... Sounds like a great opportunity. Is the group at CI at it's maximum capacity? What time would it start? Would this be the spot right off of Rt 78?
Mike, I am considering going to the PA meet. Coming from LI, so I would going right past you. I missed the LI meet and sorely need some visual support with honing.
If I can't make that meet in PA, I would be interested in some one-on-one honing support.. Drink and/or food on me if anyone who knows Coti's and ZG's is willing to teach me the ways!!
As far as I know we are not at capacity. Please join us. 230 start time.
I speak from experience. Michael is a great guy and exceedingly patient. His knowledge is shared freely. I am fortunate to be one of the many people that have benefited from his experience.

Michael was my mentor. I tried honing on my own before he invited me quite graciously to his home. After I left, I had learned more in two hours than I did the whole month before. Now im no honemeister but due to Mikes help I have become pretty proficient! I'll forever be grateful to Mike for his generosity- truly a great guy and a great teacher! Take him up on any offer that he throws out there for ya. You'll def learn tons.
Thanks Michael!
Regards,
Tony
Agreed, I've witnessed Michael's progress from the first SRP meet in Fort Hill a few years ago and every time we get together his touch and proficiency markedly improve. At the L.I. his edges were high quality. Definitely recommended.
