How Not To Hone A Razor
Not really sure this is where this belongs. After what I've seen I had to post it. Anyway stopped in the local pawn shop to see if they had anything good. Found a straight and when I looked at it it was covered in rust and the edge was so corroded, chipped and cracked it wasn't even worth looking at. The owner was really trying to sell it and was explaining to me that it wouldn't take much to take the chips out and before I could say anything he pulled out a worksharp knife sharpener and began grinding away at it. He stated that after maybe 10 min the edge would be like new. I didn't have the heart to tell him no it wouldn't be. Even with a razor in such bad shape as that one I still couldn't help but wince at the sight and sound of that. Well since I wasn't interested in the razor before that there was no way I was going to be interested in it now. I am just glad it was an unrestorable razor and not something I would consider. Needless to say a worksharp knife sharpener is not how you hone a razor.
