I have a Naniwa lapping stone (not the big one) and a DMT 325 diamond plate. Can I lap the Naniwa with the DMT? I understand lapping a lapping stone needs to be done periodically. I also wanted to get the honing stone residue off of the Naniwa lapping stone.

I think the DMT will eat anything, yes lap with it. I did my Norton lapper with it.

The DMT will have no problems eating away at the Naniwa lapping stone.

OMG - please...are you saying that the Naniwa Flattening stone I ordered, in order to lap my Naniwa 12k, needs to be lapped itself? Hahaha....when does the lapping end?:shrug:Quote:

Now I am confused, I thought the DMT or other diamond plate could be used to lap hones directly, it seems to me.that a lapping stone is just another layer of expense. I could well be wrong though, I am quite new to this.

Yea, all I am using is a DMT325 for lapping my hones. When I was thinking of starting honing i had read on here about lapping stones and troubles people were having with them so went with the DMT 325 instead. The DMT was not without it's problems either but that is another story.
