1. 1k chosera
2. 4k norton
3. 8k naniwa
4. 12k naniwa
For me the feel of the edge on the 12k determines whether I move to a ZG or choose from a selection of Japanese Naturals.
I do not use any diamond or CrOx sprays any more. I did use them through a lengthy honing learning curve.Bob

Check out Dieter Schmid Tools ; Japanese Waterstones and other Sharpening Tools for sharpening stones in Europe. Good service to the USA as well , but expensive. If you are going to get a final finisher you cannot do better than the Suehiro 20K IMHO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 603You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Thanked: 1015 micron (1.2 K)
5 micron (2.5 K)
1 micron (8 K)

iron ox on balsa 0.1 micron (~54K??)
I have found differing grit equivalents to the micron designations. YMMV.

Thanked: 10OK, this gets into some VERY controversial waters. I use PSA tapes on glass. Dead flat. And when the tapes start to give less than 100% satisfactory action, I simply replace them with another tape. PM me if you want more information. I do not want to suggest that anyone else hone in this manner, or that my methods are superior to anyone else's. It is simply the way I do it, with results that I, and those I hone for, are very happy with.

My Jnats are sitting idle since I got the Suehiro 20k. It agrees with everything and leaves a great edge. It's the reigning champ of hones.....for now.
