The tactile response of the razor on the stone would be lost using a jig which to me would be important. Also having the razor locked in the holder would limit the almost constant edge assessment that we do when we hone possibly leading to over honing. This isn't saying your jig won't work and it might be great for bevel setting or fixing chips but maybe not so much for the final finishing edge
Hi all, I really appreciate all the thoughtful feedback on here. I knew I could count on all of you. I am looking forward to owning a razor and I will definitely have it professionally honed to start. My plan all along has been to have two, so while one is out, the other is in use. However, I also am a do-it-yourself nut and will not be able to avoid trying my hand at honing. If I can get a jig to help, great. If not, well at least my kitchen knives will always be their sharpest!

While these jigs work well for knives, I do have and use one for some knives, the biggest mistake many knife sharpeners make is while the processs is similar, honing a knife and a razor are very different. Much like saying I can drive a car, I can race a Formula One car, what’s the difference?.
Some folks (usually knife guys) say they have had success honing razors with their jigs. Razor guys use conventional honing techniques.
I say go for it, I believe someone offered to hone a razor for you, if not I would be glad to. Hone one with your jig, have one hone and see which you prefer.
