You will find several tutorials on how to hone either here, on the SRP, or on youtube (where you can actually find some other videos made by senior members)
If you listen carefully to all advices, that should do the trick.
Next is training : buy a few cheap and ugly razors, and try your hand on them. It takes time to master but it's worth it :)
See if you can find a mentor on the site that is near you. One on one instruction is the best.
Search for videos from Lynn Abrams and GSSixgun.

While all sharpening shares a the same base principal, there are also some very large differences. One on one is probably going to net the best results. Being as you are in south California I suggest you should PM 10pups. He also live in that area and hosts small mini meets frequently and will know who in your specific area will be good to talk to. There is also a meet coning up in your general area very quickly.
Not to discourage you but sharpening a knife is different than honing a razor. Personally I think it is better to approach honing a straight razor as a completely new experience from the ground up. I learned the way Aggelos suggests and by following threads here on honing. The suggestion to find a mentor close to you, if possible, is excellent and would have helped me greatly I am sure. Take your time and ask questions here. It is a long road but rewarding in the end. Good luck.
