"Great deal on T-I" razor touch-up
This is in regard to the Thiers-Issard razor which was recently posted in the "Auction Talk"
segment of this forum.
I purchased one, through the Lehman's website and, as everyone has noted, it is a beautiful
razor and the price was right. Furthermore, it came with an unusually good "factory edge."
However, after 3 shaves, with stropping only, I felt that it was in need of a touch-up.
I assumed that the bevel was set without taping the spine, but I elected to add one layer
of Scotch 700 tape and thereby create a micro-bevel on the factory edge. I gave it about
50 laps on a Zulu Gray stone...just enough to make the water "climb" up the edge on each
lap on the hone.
Then I stropped it on fabric and roo hide. The resulting shave was superb!
At some point, I will probably have to re-set the bevel with a taped spine, but until then
I am entirely satisfied with the shave that that edge produces.
Ain't life grand?
