I have a SR (purchased from SRD) that I used to compare to another razor in my collection...and it was not shave ready. I picked up the Norton 4/8k stone, watched a lot of honing vids (really enjoyed the Janorton thread from a few yrs back) and noticed a lot of techniques were being used to keep SR sharp and shave ready. I selected the pyramid method, started by lapped both sides of my Norton, and proceeded to hone. When done the hht was a no-go. I found that I needed to us both hands (mainly as a guide) on the second rnd. to ensure I kept the blade parallel with the stone for the entire stroke. When finished, off to strop and shave...all I can say is this is the first time I have had to put a band-aid on after the styptic pencil was applied. A nick 1/8" long on top part of chin. As for the shave, I was pleasantly surprised. I couldn't have have gotten such good results w/o all the useful info/links on SRP. Much appreciated guys!
