Hone of the Day

The Snap failed last week so went back to the Coti for another go. Hoping this time I got it. Never did feel it sticking to the stone. :shrug: Looking for that buttery smooth feel.

Rodgers Best 1k thru 12K then spent some time on a Thuringian. Trying to figure these Natural stones out. Hoping for the best.

Blue Griffon 1K thru 12K. Found it to be a little fun and a bit difficult. Its got a nice even Smile. Meaning the roundness of the blade was constant. Found using the rocking motion worked well.

All 3 bevels are small but look good to me. Guess I'll find out tonight how I did.

Thanks for the offer Benson. Another member here sent me the Coti and Thuri that I'm using. I'll need to get those back to him soon. Now for the outcome of this honing I did today...

All 3 razors passed the shave test. :y (I also honed a ZY razor and it passed too but that one don't count. Its just something I had so thought I'd put it on the stone). The Coti finish did feel a little bit more comfortable but not much different that the 12K finish I normally do.

The Thuri finish felt as sharp as the 12K I normally do so I dont feel any difference in it yet.

Both blades done on the 12K turned out just fine. The Smile on the Griffon was complete from end to end. It turned out just like it should.
I like having a little bit bigger bevel as I can inspect it better but your right, the smaller bevels seem to shave well. I did the math and found that the Griffon needed two layers of tape to come out closer to the right angle and the other two I used one layer of tape. The ZY I used one layer of tape but that put it 20.5 degrees but I just feel I must use tape and this time.

So there you go. A fine honing day. Now if I can cut down on how long it takes me plus find the secrete with the Coti and Thuri...

I haven't tried a lot of slates, but I've yet to get an edge I'm really happy with from the ones I've tried. Usable yes, but nothing really great.

Hey Victor: how are you doing? I have I have a purplish Welsh slate said to be 12,000 grit - I've never gotten a great edge from it.
















as you said usable but not pleasant.

I have a purple slate too. It's ok but doesn't come close to being a finisher.
It's a mediocre middle of the road stone.

Have either of you tried stropping the blade on the stone a bit, after honing.?

Mike, I've tried that a time or two & it made a difference. A little reverse psychology there..........
Kinda like Glen's 3-2-1 on a Shapton 30k

Its something a few of us have done on washita's, and I've tried it on a BBW with some success
