For what I heard about, many professional barbers (at least here in Italy) used cuticules with oil in the past.
Recently an italian guy (during some talks about sharpening stones) made this video about. From bevel set to finish (and shaving :) )on a modern Selected one.

Dry Coticules gives me a rather quick bevel and leave a refined edge at the same time, then it's to the BBW dry and finishing with stropping strokes. The edges I get are unrivaled in keenness and smoothness.
I might wanna try finishing on oil again and see what happens. But this dry honing for me has proven better than water and oil in the past. I also preferred every BBW edge over my Coticule edges.
It's a highly personal thing, but the Coticule as a pure finisher has never done it for me, not even on oil.
I also prefer my BBW edges over my Escher edges, so there's that.

4 on the hones today, congratulations to James the owner of these razors who lightly restored these before sending them to me, you did a fine job cleaning these 4 vintage razors up, I'm pleased to report back they all took very nice edges, I'll post them back out on Monday.
Just a touchup on a single razor with 1mil Kapton. Jnat is a iromono and the slurry stone a kiita, an excellent combo for Swedish steel.

Just playing with the stones again, this time a nice mizu asagi (water blue) and my user-grade F14 test razor, tomo is a huge pure asagi from Takeshi. I’ll have a nice fresh edge for the Sunday morning shave.
