Coticule / Escher

I've been wondering about 2 things, been doing some research, but haven't found exactly what I have been looking for/been questioning.

1. I bought a vintage glued combination Coticule / BBW from someone and it actually came with an Escher slurry stone to my surprise.
I don't know much about the previous owner at all, but I was told that these stones were used together i.e. Escher slurry on the Coticule.
So of course my question who has actually done and tried this? I will definitely try this myself in the future, but for now I don't have any razors that need honing, but I am very curious about the results.
I know the slurry from a Coti and Escher behave differently, slurry dulling with the Coti, but not with the Thuringians. But I wouldn't know about mixing slurry on different stones, as not many people seem to like to do so, or have done so on the forums where I'm reading.


2. I have a BG and YG Thuringian hone, I have been finishing on plain water with great results.
I have read somewhere about people preferring to finish on light slurry, because that's what gave them the best results.
So I wondered, who has tried both these methods of finishing, water and light slurry or even heavier slurry, and what were your findings and preference?
Next time I'm touching up my razor, I'll try a light slurried finish over plain water and see what I think about it.


Lastly, does anyone know where to find relatively high quality scans of Thuringian labels or Escher labels, I've always liked some of those logos and would like to print some out for personal use to customize my razor & hone storage box. Or any vintage hone labels would do, Cotis or Eschers, I think it's pretty fascinating.

Why ???? just Why ???

Two totally different type of stones and cutting grits, but hey if if floats yer boat go for it.. Sounds more like somebody trying to make a name for themselves by doing what makes zero sense and then fanboying it into a "Thing"

Imagine taking a Norton 8k and rubbing it on a Shapton 8k to make it "Better" it just makes no sense

You have to try it with your stone to see how it works I happen to use a light slurry on the Escher/Thuringen stone and love the results othere use clear water and love that.. Try it and see there is no right or wrong there is what works best for you..

Hint: they included "Rubbers" with Eschers and Thuringens in the old days so that you could finish with clear water (that is a funny)

Nope I do not, I made some labels for all my stones and used Shellac to put them on the bottoms of the stones, but I just did it for myself using my designs that made me happy

1. yeah, I just tried it, didn't really make any sense, nor were the results spectacular
It felt wrooong and dirty, like I was cheating or something

2. haha, yeah, I guess it's personal preference as is pretty much everything,

3. I have a celebrated water razor hone label, but no fancy drawings or kewlio-ness, not that it matters at all; it's just for nostalgia

As silly as some questions might've been, thanks for replying!

I guess I'll just have to compare water vs slurry finishing and browse the interwebz for some interesting pictures to pimp my razor and hone shrine
