Default Interest in barber hone flattening service?

Barber hones are notoriously hard to lap, and to help me get some hones flattened I bought a DMT 320-grit diamond hone. This thing works like a charm. I lapped a beat-up Swaty in about 20 minutes.

Would anybody be interested in sending me hones to lap? I think I'd be willing to do it for $8 plus shipping. It would save you some frustrating hours or the expense of a diamond hone, and it would help me recoup the cost of my new hone.

If the volume or time needed is more than I'm anticipating, I might have to call this off, but I thought I'd see if there was any interest. If there was a lot of interest, I might come up with a sliding price scale for various hone repair services.

If you plan to lap a lot of hones, though, I highly recommend this stone. I got mine from www.theperfectedge.com.

Let me know what you think.

Josh you make a very good point. I just purchased a 320 DMT as well from Howard and it really is a wonder stone when it comes to lapping. I had some glazing problems with my norton and was able to rework the surface in ~10 minutes.

This should be a valuable service to those who have lapped with sandpaper and find the norton isn't cutting as well as it used to. According to Howard you can also flatten the coticule and blue belgian with the dmt.

I have the D8XX and D8C (DMT 120 and 320) they are fantastic plates for flatening.

If your stones are dished at all they would benifit from a trip to the DMT plate. Great service your offering there.

I have four vintage barber hones (I guess that's the only kind there is, nowadays...), each one "purty as a picture":

    - a Diamond King
    - an It's a Peach
    - a Carborundum
    - a "three-line" Swaty (but this one is probably a knock-off...)

I darn near wore my arm off trying unsuccessfully to lap a couple of them with sandpaper. So as the budget permits, I'd be pleased to send them to Josh-san for a "corrective emotional experience".

    We have our guinea pig.

I'll send you a PM with my shipping info, and we'll see if we can work something out.

What an offer! Buying the sandpaper alone is $8.00 (I know personally)
    Thanks Josh!
