Flatening norton problem

I have used 3 to sandpaper waterproof grit 220 in my Norton and still he is not flat. I have drawn the grid and single he is flat by the center. The maintenance of this stone has to me very tired <img>. I have obtained acceptable results with my wapi and my dovo.
To maintain the Norton is a pain.
Some suggestion?

There is no need to flatten new Norton stone. If you wish, you can smooth it's surface by rubbing pumice stone over it, under a thin stream of water...

He is not new. Only flat in center in the corners he is but low. I have used 3 leaves of sandpaper.

Are you using the abrasive paper well wetted and on a very flat, non-porous surface? The lapping medium (wet or dry abrasive paper) really should be continuously bathed in water to carry away the material that is removed from the Norton waterstone as you rub the two together. With the coarseness of the wet or dry paper that you are using, the flattening or lapping process should be rather quickly done.

My norton stones were a bit off when I got them new. I used the norton flattening stone and it cleaned them up in a couple of passes.

Use a very flat surface. Try a different one now. Start with 80 or 120 grit sandpaper. When flat change to 220 grit. Then finish with 500-1000 grit. Use X pattern and circles.

Monday to go to buy sandpaper 80 grit. I need to always use so many leaves of sandpaper? better to buy the stone to flatten not to use as much sandpaper?

Nortons are famous for not being that flat when new.

Now this can spark the ever present "How Flat is Flat" arguement and I don't want that. Just that for a razor, I think, all nortons should be flattened before use.

I used the Norton Flattening Stone to flatten my Norton 4/8k. Others
have reported good results using the DMT D8C also! I suspect that the
DMT might leave a smoother finish on the 4k side.

The DMT absolutely does leave a much smoother finish on both the 4K and 8K side of the Norton.
