Size: 9.4 KB Hello all.. Hope the weekend treated everyone well.. So i am sure if i searched that this has neen covered more than once so i will apologize.. With a few pics i thought i would ask for help in a new thread... Hope the pics show enough but im a real novice with the stones but its overdue to learn.. This is a square tip 5/8 Berkshire Cutlery that was in need of honing.. In the process of getting ready i was cleaning blade with soap/water in bathroom sink and lightly blunted edge tip.. Really small but it did fold slightly to one side... What would be my next move with thia? Though i really like this razor it was chosen out of my razors as my learning the honing process so with that i dont plan on sending it out for anything im going to do to it.. Unless i take a big chunk somehow and even then i wouldnt pay for those repairs ..Thanks fellas and as normal i appreciate all responses, SMW

I bought a razor on eBay for dirt cheap and found when I got it, it had a bent tip. A little larger bend than yours. I tried to straighten it. WRONG! It broke off but luckily it was just past the bend. So I didn't lose too much edge. I took the drimmel to it and rounded the tip smoothly. I think this will be about the only recourse you have. I could be wrong. Maybe someone will pop in and give another idea, but that's my opinion. Stuff happens. At least it was a tiny point and not a big chuck snapping off. Which might happen if you try to straighten it.

Same thing happened to me. It’s small enough, if you have a diamond plate I would start there, pretty hard to get into too much trouble that way. I definitely wouldn’t try and straighten it out you’ll risk breaking off more than just grinding it out.

That’s a bummer. Hope you can get it sorted.

Hello Jerry & jfk. Thanks for the advice. After assessing the tip again I fortunetly only have 3 ways to go. Leave it and after honing & sharpening if the edge doesnt have a burr or drag across your face then use as is, round with dremel to desired curve, or shorten blade some, square and make into a shorty.. #3 is a no go for me and since im in need of practice with my stones the obvious is #2 and round that a little... Since it is quite late ill start with this tomorrow evening... Jerry when i dremel that edge im assuning whatever area i do is going to leave the edge as non existant? How will i go about making an edge? Thanks brothers!! ... SMW

    Take it to the stones.
I had a near exact question years ago.
The fine gentlemen said to use the side of a 1k. Don't rush it.
If it were bigger you might use a dremel and lose a little length.
Hey, on the bright side... That one looked like it was gonna be an ear biter! Now it's gonna shave better.
    You're a lucky man!

Agreed, John. Such a minor ding would not have me looking for power tools or to make the blade a shorty. It's rather insignificant.

If you have a Diamond plate that would be the way to go. With a dremmal the slightest touch is going to take away a lot of steel quickly as it is very thin at that tip. Just round off by hand as little as possible.
No need to round it off as much as the last blade you posted. Use a small round item and a sharpie and mark it. Then work to the line. Less is best.

When honing a little sweeping action can get some of it on the stone but your right. Your not going to get the edge to the far end of the curve. Some honing gymnastics will get it close enough.

If your going to use a stone be sure to use the side of the stone. Its going to gouge your stone. Thats why a DMT would be best. You need one anyway if your going to be honing. Id use a 325 or 400 to make it go easier.

Thanks guys... The support is always top notch.. Thanks for the reminder about gouging the rock Jerry.. I would have overlooked that... Is the DMT you guys are talking about the one i see in Hardware stores? I see some DMT's mixed in with a lot of knife sharpeners at the Hardware store.. SMW
