Size: 9.4 KB Hello all.. Hope the weekend treated everyone well.. So i am sure if i searched that this has neen covered more than once so i will apologize.. With a few pics i thought i would ask for help in a new thread... Hope the pics show enough but im a real novice with the stones but its overdue to learn.. This is a square tip 5/8 Berkshire Cutlery that was in need of honing.. In the process of getting ready i was cleaning blade with soap/water in bathroom sink and lightly blunted edge tip.. Really small but it did fold slightly to one side... What would be my next move with thia? Though i really like this razor it was chosen out of my razors as my learning the honing process so with that i dont plan on sending it out for anything im going to do to it.. Unless i take a big chunk somehow and even then i wouldnt pay for those repairs ..Thanks fellas and as normal i appreciate all responses, SMW

I bought a razor on eBay for dirt cheap and found when I got it, it had a bent tip. A little larger bend than yours. I tried to straighten it. WRONG! It broke off but luckily it was just past the bend. So I didn't lose too much edge. I took the drimmel to it and rounded the tip smoothly. I think this will be about the only recourse you have. I could be wrong. Maybe someone will pop in and give another idea, but that's my opinion. Stuff happens. At least it was a tiny point and not a big chuck snapping off. Which might happen if you try to straighten it.

Same thing happened to me. It’s small enough, if you have a diamond plate I would start there, pretty hard to get into too much trouble that way. I definitely wouldn’t try and straighten it out you’ll risk breaking off more than just grinding it out.

That’s a bummer. Hope you can get it sorted.

Hello Jerry & jfk. Thanks for the advice. After assessing the tip again I fortunetly only have 3 ways to go. Leave it and after honing & sharpening if the edge doesnt have a burr or drag across your face then use as is, round with dremel to desired curve, or shorten blade some, square and make into a shorty.. #3 is a no go for me and since im in need of practice with my stones the obvious is #2 and round that a little... Since it is quite late ill start with this tomorrow evening... Jerry when i dremel that edge im assuning whatever area i do is going to leave the edge as non existant? How will i go about making an edge? Thanks brothers!! ... SMW

    Take it to the stones.
I had a near exact question years ago.
The fine gentlemen said to use the side of a 1k. Don't rush it.
If it were bigger you might use a dremel and lose a little length.
Hey, on the bright side... That one looked like it was gonna be an ear biter! Now it's gonna shave better.
    You're a lucky man!

Some folks like the extra detail control that a sharp corner provides, but I’m not in that camp. I’m not a fan of sharp corners and would have rounded the corner with a 1K DMT before shaving. IMHO you just might have saved yourself from getting a bite from that blade.

Thank's Mike... A dremel in my hands heading to the blade edge makes them all shake in fear.. Never had a comfortable feelung i would get through without inflicting worse damage.. I have put off buying a Chisera 1k stone for a long time so thats going to be ordered today.. Could use my 4k but ill wait .... About the ear biter.. . Yes it wont hurt my feeling rounding this a bit but this one wasnt too bad.... My hotspot for those tiny pinchers to come out on squares is right under my nostril/almost point centimeters inside... I use about the 1st quarter inch or so of my razors front tip @90 degrees and scrape the cut hairs down a tiny bit when getting that spot.... The worst razor I ever had when it vame to using in that area was a 5/8 square tip Hart... I swear if i looked at that thing sideways or didnt wisper sweet nothing in her ear I didnt even have to touch the blade to my skin and she would bite me!! True story ..... Big D (DeiselD) I hope it has not bitten you yet.. Thanks fellas, SMW

If the blade belonged to me, I would place the tip of the razor on a lower grit hone and remove the bent metal. There are razors that are designed with a tip similar to that:
