Norton 8K and Dish detergent

I accidently spilled some olive oil drops on my Norton 8k. I impulsively washed it off with some liquid dish detergent (Dawn liquid). Anyone know if dish detergent ruins a Norton? Does it glaze it? I'll let you know how the stone works from here on out. I've heard of people using Comet or Scotch Brite to clean a Norton...but Dawn?

I have no idea if it'll work, but soaking it in hot water with may be a touch of soap/dawn should help get rid of the oil. I can't see how Dawn would cause any adverse effects on the stone.

I use Dawn dishwashing detergent on all of my stones most of the time, Norton, Coticule, Diamond, Arkansas, and miscellaneous barber hones and natural stones of unknown origin. The soap makes a great wetting agent, I like the way it makes the metal stick to the stones. For me it works better than lather. When I soak my water stones I do it in a sink full of water and a little Dawn. For me it is water with a detergent or plain water.

This is my long winded way if saying that the Dawn should not have any adverse effects.

No problems with dish detergent. I even use an abrasive bleach cleaner on it with no adverse consequences, but I make sure to rinse it out well and soak it in clean water before re-soaking to eliminate the bleach as it's not steel-friendly.

I wouldn't worry about it much. On the otherhand the instructions that come with Shaptons says "Do not wash stone with soap or detergent. This may damage the stone. Use water instead."

But that is a shapton. Your Norton should be OK. Just make sure that it is rinsed , If it was Dawn with bleach. Make sure that you soak it in clean water, about ten to 15 min, dump that water and soak again, use as normal.
