Thread: Norton 8K vs Belgian Yellow Coticule 8K ?

Hi, my question is ..If I'm honing on the Norton 8K. Why finish on the
Belgian Yellow Coticule which is also an 8K grit. Can anyone explain this to me.I watched Lynn do this but couldn't figure out why. Thanks.

I think its because he prefers the way the shave feels afterward.

The Belgian coticule is often rated at 8K, but it actually functions like a higher grit hone, somewhere in the 10K range. A coticule will smooth out the edge you get from a Norton 8K, making it more comfortable.

Well, I think the Coticule is around 5-6K grit, and the Norton 8K is way finer. You can tell that by the reflection on the bevel. After the Coticule, it looks mate, and you can easily tell the grit marks. After the N8K, it looks like mirror polish.

This has not been my experience. The coticule definately leaves a sharper/smoother edge than the Norton 8K for me as well.

Yes;
Same for me...with slurry and then with water. It improves the Norton finish and feel.
