Thread: honing service

Hi ,

My friend is thinking of getting a straight razor and i was advising him to perhaps just buy a second had one of fair quality and then just send it away to be honed, instead of having to buy all the stones which is quite a price commitment. I would think then he could maintain it on a strop with some paste, perhaps getting the cuitical (spelling?) if need be.

Anyway, can anyone suggest a honer, i know there are a few in SRP but not sure where to find them. Any idea on price? assuming the blade has no chips or rust.

woops, yeah good question, my friend is in Toronto, ON CANADA. So someone in Canada would be preferable but it wouldn't be too bad to send it to N.America.

Any time you send across the border you raise the cost and lower the reliability.
I'm sure there have to be honemeisters in Canada.

Any good honers in the Houston Texas area, or at least close?

Off the top of my head I would say PM Floppyshoes / Dan and see if he has time, he does Restoration and Honing and is in Canada......
