After just about butchering my str8 with a fine india stone, I've finally got it back to a point that I'm no longer afraid that I destroyed it. The heel half will shave superbly but the point half still pulls despite what I am confident is pretty good technique on the strop.

I do not have a microscope or other device of sufficient magnification to help but I've put the dial calipers on the spine to confirm that it remains of even thickness and visiual inspection tells me that the blade does not "smile." Also, ink comes of the edge uniformly during the black marker test and I lap my stones religiously.

Any ideas on the cause of the uneven sharpness and remedies I can try?

Thanks in advance.
