    Default DMT sharpening???????

    Hi,

I have a DMT D6E and a DMT D8EE and was wondering what kind of progression I should use to sharpen my razor, how much lenght of stone should I cover with each one and in what order.

    Thanks

    The D6EE cuts faster. 1,200 mesh vs. 8,000 mesh(D8EE).

The D6E can be used to set the first bevel on used razors or those that need material removed faster than a D8EE will do it. It cuts pretty fast, so test frequently.

For a brand new factory-fresh razor, the D8EE is usually more than enough to get a nice working bevel. Many like to refine the edge on a 12k (+/- 2k or so) and/or paste after the D8EE.

Generally, use as much of the hones length as you can.

If you're new to sharpening, be sure to check out the Honing Faqs before you begin.

And here is the link to Sticky's post about the progressive honing method, a must read IMHO if your using anything else than the Norton.

I find I use probably around 5in. or more of the DMTs that I own (all are the DMT8 series). I try to maximize the use of the surface.
